Music and Memories

Updated: Jul 1, 2019

What songs inspire vivid memories for you? I've spent the evening creating a playlist on Spotify of songs from the 1970s that I've listened to multiple times as a teenager. I'm not sure how many times I listened to Carole King's album "Tapestry" in my early teen years, but it's burned deep into my memory, so of course that album is included. Add in a bit of Carly Simon, Elton John, and how could I not include Led Zepplin's "Stairway to Heaven"? I listened to this song every night at midnight on WDRC (Hartford CT) as I drifted off to sleep.

I am old enough to remember creating playlists that involved a radio, a tape recorder, and a cassette tape. I'd have the tape recorder ready to go, and as soon as I heard a favorite song on the radio start to play, I'd quickly press the record button - usually missing the beginning of the song, or coping with the DJ who would talk over the introductory music, much to my annoyance. If I had the funds to actually purchase a vinyl album to own for that one song that I loved from the radio, it was a bit of a gamble as to whether I'd like any other song.

Here's an article that might inspire you to hunt around on YouTube or ITunes or Spotify to explore what songs might be included on your personal memories play list. No cassette tape recorder needed!
